What is AI Content Generator Lite?
AI Content Generator Lite is the free edition of our SEO content plugin for WordPress. You install it on your site, paste your OpenAI API key, write a topic + audience, and the plugin generates SEO-ready article drafts directly inside WordPress.
It’s the exact same interface as the Pro plugin — every feature, every menu, every metabox. Pro-only controls are visibly present but disabled, with a clear “Upgrade to Pro” call-to-action on each one. No hidden surprises: you see exactly what you’d unlock by upgrading, before you decide to pay.

Why we built a free version
Most “AI content tools” are either pure online services (you don’t control the data) or expensive SaaS subscriptions with no real way to try them. We wanted the opposite: a real WordPress plugin, installed on your server, with your OpenAI key, running on your hosting. No middleman.
But we also know that 299 € is a non-trivial entry barrier when you’ve never seen the plugin work on your site. So we made the Lite: same plugin, same UI, real generation — capped at 10 articles per month so we don’t compete with the Pro on production volume.
How Lite → Pro upgrade works
This is the part we’re most proud of: upgrading from Lite to Pro is a true no-op.
The Lite shares the same campaign storage, the same settings option and the same meta keys with the Pro plugin. When you install the Pro and activate it, the Lite auto-deactivates and the Pro takes over with all your existing campaigns, settings and content intact. No migration, no export/import, no data loss. You literally just install the Pro on top of the Lite.
How to install
- Download the ZIP from our free page (we’re also submitting to WordPress.org plugin directory — it’ll be there in a few days).
- In your WordPress admin: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate.
- Go to AI Content Generator → Settings and paste your OpenAI API key (get one at platform.openai.com).
- Open AI Content Generator → Campaigns → New, write a topic + audience, click Generate titles, then Generate article. Your first draft is ready.
Takes about 2 minutes start to finish.
What about the cost of OpenAI?
The plugin is free. The only cost you’ll see is OpenAI API usage, which you pay directly to OpenAI on your own account (typically a few cents per article on gpt-4o-mini). No subscription on our side, no markup, no middleman. You’re in full control of the budget.
FAQ
Can I run the Lite and the Pro at the same time?
No. They share the same database tables, so running both would cause conflicts. The Lite has an activation guard + a runtime guard that prevents the two from being active simultaneously. When you install the Pro, the Lite auto-disables silently.
What happens to my data when I upgrade to Pro?
Nothing — it’s preserved as-is. The CPT, the settings option and the meta keys are shared between Lite and Pro. The Pro just picks up where the Lite left off.
What happens when I reach the 10-article monthly cap?
The Generate button is gated. You can keep creating campaigns and brainstorming titles, but article generation pauses until the next calendar month — or until you upgrade to Pro for unlimited generations.
Is the OpenAI key sent anywhere except OpenAI?
No. The key lives in your WordPress database (the as_snella_settings option) and is only ever transmitted to api.openai.com when you generate content. There’s no telemetry, no analytics call, no third-party endpoint.
