News sources
How to check and manage the sources used for news content generation
The News sources section provides an overview of all the external data sources that are active across your news campaigns. From here you can verify which sources are enabled, check their configuration and update settings without opening each individual campaign.
When to open this screen
Open this section when you need to check the health of your news source setup across multiple campaigns, when a source stops delivering relevant content, or when you add a new API key and want to verify it is being used correctly.
This is a monitoring and management screen, not a configuration screen. The detailed feed URLs and API queries for individual campaigns are configured inside each campaign’s News mode metabox. This section gives you the bird’s-eye view.
The correct procedure is to review this section periodically — weekly for active news campaigns — to catch feeds that have gone stale, API keys that are close to their rate limit, or sources that are producing consistently irrelevant content.
What’s on this page
Recommended procedure for source management
Regular source review prevents news campaigns from silently drifting off-topic or failing to fetch content without triggering visible errors.
1. Check source status
Review which sources are active and which have been disabled across all campaigns.
2. Verify fetch frequency
Check that active sources are being fetched at the expected intervals.
3. Review relevance
If output quality has dropped, check whether any recently added source is feeding irrelevant headlines.
4. Update API keys
If a source shows authentication errors, update the API key in Global Settings and verify here.
Source types and their characteristics
Different source types have different strengths, limitations and configuration requirements. Knowing them helps you choose the right combination for each campaign.
RSS
Free, no API key. Updates vary by publisher — some feeds update hourly, others daily.
NewsAPI.org
Requires an API key. Free plan: 100 requests per day. Covers news from hundreds of international publishers.
Tavily Search
Requires an API key. Free plan: 1000 requests per month. Best for real-time web search results.
RSS + NewsAPI
Combines feed reliability with API-powered discovery. Good for campaigns covering both niche and broad topics.
RSS + Tavily
Combines feed reliability with real-time search. Useful when RSS feeds lag behind breaking news.
No source
Campaign has News mode enabled but no sources configured — no content will be generated until sources are added.
How to diagnose and fix common source problems
Most news source issues are caused by configuration gaps rather than technical failures. These checks resolve the majority of problems.
No content generated
Verify that at least one source is active and that the feed URL or API query returns results.
Irrelevant headlines
Tighten the RSS feed list or refine the NewsAPI/Tavily query to a more specific topic.
API authentication error
Check that the API key for the affected source is correctly entered in Global Settings.
Rate limit exceeded
Reduce the auto-run frequency or switch to a paid API plan with higher limits.
Common mistakes to avoid
The most common mistake is not reviewing sources after the initial setup: feeds can go dead, API keys can expire and topic relevance can drift over time. A second mistake is enabling too many sources at once without testing each one individually, making it hard to identify which source is causing quality issues.
Summary
News sources are the foundation of every news campaign. Review them regularly, keep the active list focused and relevant, and address API errors quickly to avoid gaps in the content schedule.
